Finally, There Is An Affordable (And Super Cool) Subscription Box Service That Can Make Buying Clothes Easier For Everyone.
By Carissa Tozzi
We know how difficult it can be to actually go into a store with a child and shop for clothes and how much harder it is to do that if your child has any sensory issues when it comes to fabrics and fit, and if they haven't developed their fine motor skills to dress themselves, it could be the most discouraging experience ever. How can a box service help you dress your child? Rockets of Awesome made it easy! To begin, you take a style quiz and choose what works for your child, no zippers-no problem, soft fabrics-check, and nothing in purple -OK! Then like magic, a box arrives at your home with options to try that are thoughtful and cool. We caught up with Rachel Blumenthal the Founder of Rockets of Awesome to learn more about her business and why Rockets can be a perfect shopping solution for you.
Do you remember the moment the idea for Rockets of Awesome came to you? How did you know you were on to something? When I became a mom, I was excited to shop for my son, but I quickly found it to be overly time-consuming to find stylish clothes that didn’t cost a fortune. I had to either spend way too much time digging or sacrifice style or value. I heard the same frustration from friends, family and the Cricket’s Circle community (an earlier online resource and editorial engine for everything baby and toddler), and created Rockets of Awesome as a solution for parents. We simplify the process of shopping for kids and deliver stylish, high-quality kids clothes at an incredible value – plus we do the shopping for you and make it completely risk free to return what you don’t want. It’s a win win!
You have an 18-month old daughter and a five-year-old son, what challenges have you personally faced shopping for your children that informed the style of clothing options for Rockets of Awesome? I have learned so much from both my son and daughter about what kids like and don’t like to wear. Each piece is crafted with special attention to fabric and construction to ensure kids can still be kids. For me, it’s always pieces that are comfortable, versatile, practical and have that special unexpected twist that makes it feel fresh in comparison to everything else out there. I don’t like to spend a lot on each item because they need so much, it adds up very quickly. Instead I like feeling like every piece looks like it costs so much more than it does and isn’t itchy or constraining which is when my kids complain.
What have you learned so far about your customers through their options to personalize their shopping experience? Anything that surprised you? We have learned that customers love the opportunity to personalize their shopping experience! The process gives both kids and parents a chance to make choices. The kids are especially excited to wear their Rockets of Awesome clothing since they feel like they have chosen their items versus their parents choosing for them. We also have had parents of children with autism email or call and thank us for delivering such a personal service to their home. They explained how challenging it is shopping in stores with their kids and how our service provides a much needed relief from that stress. Simplifying the lives of parents is our number one mission and this was a community we hadn’t even imagined being able to impact.
We love the thoughtful designs of the clothing, easy zippers for example, what other design ideas have you implemented to make the dressing experience easier for kids who are learning /may have difficulty dressing themselves? Thank you! All of our pieces are designed to be super soft and comfortable which is great for kids who are learning to dress themselves or may have difficulties doing so. We avoid zippers, buttons and tags whenever possible, the waistbands of our pants are lined in super soft t-shirt fabric, and we’ve added extra stretch to our bottoms. The Rockets of Awesome experience also allows for kids to shop for and try on clothes in the comfort of their home. Many parents of kids who are learning to/may have difficulty dressing themselves prefer shopping at home to shopping in stores, as do the kids themselves. Plus, if you love something, you can rip off the tags and start strutting your stuff right then and there!
What would you like to tell parents who were hesitant about taking the plunge into a service subscription for clothing for their kids? Rockets of Awesome not only makes shopping simpler for parents end-to-end, by saving them time (time is money!) but provides stylish, high quality kids clothing at an incredible value. The membership is completely free to sign up, shipping and returns are free, and customers only pay for what they keep. There’s literally no catch. And I can promise you, as someone that is very picky, you will LOVE the clothes - they are very cool and uber soft and comfy.
Can you give us a hint about what your customers can look forward to in their Spring subscription box? Expect to see bright colors and fun patterns in the softest fabrics! We’re continuing to develop mixed material fashion tops for girls and super fresh and clean graphic t-shirts for boys.
